Ebook About A cruise ship is plying the Mexican Riviera … and Brian Taylor is playing piano aboard. For a quiet, small guy, it’s a dream job. He is a world-class pianist who lives only for his music, and he’s quite comfortable in the regulated and confined day-to-day world of a ship. Then a series of circumstances, including a crew member’s accident and corporate skullduggery, force him to masquerade as a female lounge singer for one night. But further circumstances mean Brian must continue the masquerade, and learns that it is no deception—and it may truly be a dream job for life.Book Port of Departure (Ports of Crossing Book 1) Review :
Karin Bishop has earned a place in my pantheon of favorite authors over the past several years with her wonderful characters and outstanding stories, but this book has taken her to an entirely new plane. This story truly epitomizes the book that you can't put down. The main character, Taylor, is wonderfully real - complete with all the self-doubt and issues that we all have; the so-called warts and blemishes on her life. Yet as she discovers herself, she proves to be more real than she thought, or should I say more real than everyone else thought? She morphs from a relatively nice but uninteresting nobody into a beautiful, talented, and charismatic entertainer. Yet she retains her most endearing personality trait - her inherent humility. In a phrase, she is that rarest of individuals - the person who truly has no idea just how beautiful and l lovely they are. What's more, Karin manages to build her minor characters into real people as well. Through their interaction with Taylor, we learn each of their back stories to a certain extent, and in so doing they too seem to step off the page into reality. Karin manages to take a bit part and grow it into a fully realized person within the story. A task that not only isn't easy, but something that most authors simply can't be bothered with.I have but one complaint regarding this story.......It ended. The abruptness of the ending - no matter how good it was, left me feeling unfulfilled and craving more. And then I realized that Karin is already working on the sequel to the book and my heart sang! I cannot wait to buy the sequel and continue where this book left off.Bravo Miss Bishop, you have set the standard even higher.Dallas That isn't meant to be dismissive. The author often brings detail from an industry that I've never had contact with and with sufficient depth for me to understand it's ebbs and flows and interesting stories.I've often wondered, in a surface kind of way, what a cruise would be like and the author gives me a good feel for it in a way that makes me want to consider it more. And of course, the music making industry that goes with it weaves a great story again.Rather than a teen, we get a 20-something dealing with emotions never expected. This is the first of a two part series and I enjoyed both.
